Pattern for Panic(Reformatted with Shell Scott as Main Character) Notice on the Berkley Book in the lower left it reads, "Complete and Unabridged" while on the Fawcett copy it specifies in the lower right "Specially revised by the author". I was cursing my luck and Mexican jails and Mexican cops when I spotted this particular cop. I could see the empty space in his mouth where I'd knocked out two of his teeth. "Hello, you stoop," I said. "I hope you swallowed those teeth and they bite the hell out of you. I hope you get the Tourist Disease and bleed to death. Come a little closer. I like to hit cops." He couldn't understand English, so it was O.K. "Gringo bastard," he said. "Keep it up. I'll kill you." Oh brother.
He'd come equipped with a long wooden billy - and me without so much as a
brass knuck to my name. |
